  • Fight for the No: 1 Test spot

    Date: 2009.11.15 | Category: Sports | Response: 0

India misses the opportunity to get into the Rank 1 in ICC ODI Championship table earlier this month. But they got another opportunity to get the No 1 position in ICC Test match. India gets a shot at the number-one spot in the longer version of the game when it goes head to head with Sri Lanka in three-Test series which begins in Ahmedabad on Monday. Only three ratings points separates first-placed South Africa from third-placed India in the Reliance Mobile ICC Test Championship and all could change as the most challenging and important format of the game returns to action after nearly 10 weeks’ break. India will go on top of the Test table if it beats Sri Lanka by 2-0 or better. In case of a 2-0 win, India will climb to 124 ratings points (two ahead of South Africa) while a 3-0 victory will take Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s side to 125 ratings points (three ahead of the Proteas). India’s 2-0 win will drop Sri Lanka from second place to fourth position behind Australia on 115 ratings points while a 3-0 defeat will put Kumar Sangakkara’s side on 114 ratings points. Sri Lanka also has a chance to claim the coveted number-one position. And to achieve this, it simply needs to win the series.A 2-0 victory will lift Sri Lanka to 125 ratings points and will drop India to 114 ratings points. A drawn series will mean the status quo is maintained.

  • Sachin Tendulkar begins a third decade in world cricket

    Date: 2009.11.14 | Category: Sports | Response: 0

‘Cricket is my life and I am lucky and absolutely honoured that I have been able to wear the India cap for 20 years.’

The Indian batting maestro is also the only active cricketer to feature in the longest Tests career list and at 36 years of age he is still going strong. Sachin Tendulkar Completed his 20 years in international cricket and became the first Indian and only the 16th in the history of the game to have a career spanning more than two decades. Tendulkar, who made his debut as a 16-year-old against Pakistan way back in November 15, 1989, will reach the milestone of 20 years and one day in international cricket. In his Test career spanning 19 years 143 days till date, Tendulkar has represented India in a record 159 Tests. He also played a record 436 50-over matches in his 19 years and 325 days one-day career, thus becoming only the second player after Pakistan’s Javed Miandad to have the longest ODI career. In his two decades long career, Tendulkar had written many records which catapulted him to the honor of being the milestone man. Even though he holds the record of being the highest run-getter and century maker in both the Tests and ODIs, he is everlasting hunger for runs know no boundary. A perfectionist by nature, Tendulkar has till date amassed a staggering 12,773 runs from 159 Tests at a robust average of 54.58 with a mind boggling 42 centuries and 53 half centuries. His records in ODIs are too unmatchable. The Mumbaikar recently achieved another milestone when he became the only batsman in the history of the game to break into 17,000 run mark. With a mammoth 17,173 runs from 436 ODIs, Tendulkar is in the threshold of another feat as he is just nine centuries short of touching the magical figure of 100 tons. Tendulkar is also just 54 runs short of becoming the only batsman in the world to score a whopping 30,000 run in international cricket — combining both Tests and ODIs. ‘My love for cricket and the honour of playing for my country have kept me motivated all these years,’ said Tendulkar, 36, ahead of the first Test against Sri Lanka starting in Ahmedabad on Monday.

  • Australia regaining their No. 1 ranking in style

Dhoni won the toss India won the toss and elected to bat first, but they were off to a horrendous start as they lost their five top order batsmen for just 27 runs, which resulted in poor total of 170. They fail of the top order batsman’s make India in trouble. Top order batsmen went to the pavilion with a single digit. Johnson provided early breakthroughs by bowling Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir in his first over with the new ball and snared Suresh Raina later in his first spell. Bollinger too supported him with his best career of 5 wickets, he ripped through the Indian batting order removing Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Dhoni, Jadeja and Harbhajan Singh, as the home team was bundled out for 170 in 48 over’s. Ravindra Jadeja and Praveen Kumar played an excellent innings in their carrier and made their half centuries and made India to score 170. Though Indian bowlers try their level best they can stop Aussies. Australia batted very well and Watson played extraordinarily well with his 49 and other players played constantly and made 172/4 in 41.4 over. With this victory Australia won the series and stood in the same No 1 position in the ICC rankings. This is a big disappointment for the all the Indian fans yet again by losing the series in the hometown. The Indian team needs to improve themselves in all the fields and maintain a consistent in their performance. The poor performance in the bowling and Fielding and inconsistency became the most disadvantages for the team.

    Date: 2009.11.06 | Category: Sports | Response: 0

Sachin Tendulkar, the god’s gift to Indian Cricket. He is been an icon of the cricket world. Records are breakable but I don’t find a person to beat all the records of master blaster. There may be chance for breaking one of the records of Sachin but no one can achieve all the records of Sachin again. What the records he is having are countless. First man to cross 12,000 to 17,000 and going on.. Still now he is playing for India not for himself. For instance, last match in Hyderabad is the only match India chases such a huge target even though no one partnership with Sachin except Suresh Riana. Sachin Tendulkar scored a scintillating 175 off 141 balls and such a knock deserved to be on the winning side. He carried on manfully even after losing Virender Sehwag (38), Gautam Gambhir (8), Yuvraj Singh (9) and skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni (6) for 162 runs before the half-way stage and found in Suresh Raina (59) a lively partner who could hit big shots when required. Even though the star made 50% of the team score, India lost a heart-stopping match by mere three runs to go down 2-3 in the seven-match series against Australia here Thursday.
